1. Sudhanshu Vats, Group CEO and MD of Viacom18, Resigns

Sudhanshu Vats, Group CEO and MD of Viacom18, a subsidiary of Network18, has decided to move on from Viacom18 after 8 years at the helm. As noted by exchange4media, he will be serving at Viacom18 till 15th April 2020. Rahul Joshi, Managing Director of the Network18 Group, will take over as the Group CEO and MD of Viacom18.

2. Publicis Groupe Reports 2.9% Fall In Organic Revenue And Plans Cuts Amid COVID-19

Publicis Groupe has announced a 17.1% increase in net revenue to US$2.7bn but a 2.9% fall in organic growth for the first quarter of 2020, in its first set of results that show some impact from the COVID-19 crisis. As reported by Campaign Live, the company announced “exceptional measures” to deal with what chairman and chief executive, Arthur Sadoun, described as “a crisis that will be unparalleled in terms of magnitude, complexity and probably length”. These measures include a US$546m cost-reduction plan, that are expected to be introduced in Publicis companies around the world, this week.

3. Dentsu Aegis Network Implements Cost Saving Measures

Dentsu Aegis Network is implementing cost saving measures across the company, as a result of COVID-19 business impacts. According to Adweek, the measures include implementing an immediate hiring freeze, delaying salary reviews in 2020 and temporary salary reductions with the top management team taking the highest percentage cut. Last month, WPP said it is freezing new hires, reviewing freelance expenditure and stopping discretionary costs including travel, hotels and costs of award shows.

4. INS Seeks Government Assistance To Save Newspaper Industry

The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) has written to the Union government seeking urgent interventions and assistance to keep the newspaper industry afloat. As mentioned by The Economic Times, INS has repeated its demand for a two-year tax holiday, removal of 5% customs duty on newsprint, 50% increase in DAVP ad rates and 100% increase in budget spends. INS has urged the government to help the industry tide over the crisis brought on by the “triple whammy” of coronavirus.

5. 19 shortlists for India At New York Festivals Advertising Awards 2020

The organisers of the New York Festivals Advertising Awards have announced the shortlist for the 2020 edition. As per Campaign India, 19 of the shortlists are from India.

Cheil India has 7 of them for Samsung’s ‘Good Vibes: Now, words aren’t just heard, but felt’. 

TBWA India’s 5 shortlists comprise of 3 for ‘One Mindful Mind’ and 2 for ‘Blink to Speak’.

BBDO India has 5 shortlists too – 3 are for ’40 Years of Indian Advertising’ for Zee MELT and 2 are for ‘Sons #ShareTheLoad’.

Tribes Communications has 2 shortlists each for Honda’s ‘Life Saver Boards’.

Winners will be announced on 2 May 2020.
