1. Ascential Sells MediaLink to UTA for $125m
MediaLink is changing ownership after Ascential, the owner of Cannes Lions, agreed to sell it for $125 million in cash to Hollywood talent agency giant United Talent Agency (UTA). Michael Kassan founded MediaLink in 2003 and sold his business to Ascential in 2017. Kassan will continue as chief executive of MediaLink, which remains a standalone brand, and his 150-person team will add about 30 staff from UTA’s marketing division.
2. Google TV Appoints Emotive to Lead Campaign
Google has appointed independent creative agency Emotive to lead its campaign work for Google TV, a platform that groups television shows and films from different streaming services into one. The partnership starts with a content series Watch With Me, featuring Margaret Pomeranz and Adam Goodes, made for the Google TV interface. The series runs alongside the global 30-second spots.
3. Spotify Acquires Whooshkaa
Spotify has acquired another podcast technology company, Whooshkaa, an Australia-based all-in-one platform for hosting, managing, distributing, promoting, monetizing and measuring podcasts. The deal follows Spotify’s earlier acquisitions in the podcast technology market. As per TechCrunch, Spotify is gaining a new tool with Whooshkaa – specialized technology that allows radio broadcasters to easily turn their existing audio content into on-demand podcast programming.
4. TikTok Tests Live Studio
TikTok is currently testing a streaming software called ‘TikTok Live Studio’ that will allow users to broadcast their video games or desktop apps live. According to The Economic Times, the new programme will support streaming in both landscape and portrait mode. Once downloaded to the desktop, the new software will allow users to log in with their TikTok account and stream directly to TikTok Live.
