1. Cannes Lions Confirms Physical Event in 2022
The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity will be held as a real-life event in 2022. According to campaign India, the festival would build on the digital access introduced during the pandemic, stating that “as the world shifts and changes we know our role as conveners needs to evolve”. It will open for entries and registrations on 20 January 2022.

2. Google Consolidates Global Media Account with Essence
Google has consolidated its entire multi-billion global media account with WPP’s Essence. Google has partnered with Essence for more than a decade on all digital and programmatic media buying, but the offline portion of the business was managed by Omnicom Media Group (OMG). PHD handled the US business and OMD had the rest of the world. Essence already held 80% of the business globally, and the account was moved without a formal review in an effort by Google to simplify its agency relationships, according to campaign US.

3. Havas Media Group Appoints Hamid Habib as Chief Experience Officer
Havas Media Group has hired Hamid Habib as chief experience officer, with the additional role of deputy managing director of Havas Entertainment. At Havas, Habib will focus on developing media experiences for clients across Havas Media, Havas Entertainment and Havas Market. He joins from Craft Media, where he spent two and a half years as strategy partner.

4. Instagram Asks Bots for Video Selfies
Instagram is asking users to provide a video selfie showing multiple angles of their face to verify that they’re a real person, according to The Verge. The social network has long struggled with bot accounts, which can leave spam messages, harass people, or be used to artificially inflate like or follower counts for celebrities, influencers and brands. Instagram says it’s asking suspicious accounts to verify they’re human, not bots.

5. Taboola Partners with Getty Images
Ad company Taboola has announced a multiyear deal with Getty Images. This will enable Taboola’s advertisers to access Getty Images’ library of stock video content within the Taboola Ads media buying platform. As per exchange4media, the new partnership will also empower advertisers of all sizes to execute campaigns across Taboola’s diverse formats.
