Tata Sky’s Acting Adda campaign, by Ogilvy & Mather, features Amitabh Bachchan playing the role of an aspiring actor who initially fails at a local Ramleela audition but with the help of Tata Sky Acting Adda, he bags the part of Ravan in the play. The concept is clever and works largely on this ironic humour. At 74, Bachchan is India’s favourite megastar. To watch him struggle in a field that he is a master of, is so unbelievable that it is funny. In a light-hearted series of four ads, we see Bachchan learning the nuances of acting, trying out various expressions and delivering lines in different styles. Amitabh Bachchan’s superlative performance and hilarious antics makes all four TVCs entertaining. Having said that, the campaign does not take the focus away from the actual product. The brand manages to deliver the intended message about its exclusive service and the content that is available in the Acting Adda pack.
