1. WPP Appoints Dr Ya-Qin Zhang to its Board as a Non-Executive Director

WPP has appointed Dr Ya-Qin Zhang to its Board as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 1 January 2021. Technologist, scientist and entrepreneur, Dr. Zhang served as President of Baidu Inc, the global internet services and AI company headquartered in Beijing, between 2014 and 2019. Prior to joining Baidu, he held several key positions during his 16-year tenure with Microsoft, both in the US and in China.

2. Havas Group’s Net Revenue Declined 10.4%


Havas Group’s organic net revenue declined 10.4% year on year to €472m over the third quarter of the year, showing that the coronavirus pandemic continues to have an impact on agency businesses, as reported by campaign India. However, this was a significant improvement on the second quarter when the agency group had an 18.3% drop. Last week, Interpublic Group reported organic revenue decline of 3.7% and Publicis Groupe’s last week revealed a 5.6% drop.

3. IRDAI Proposes Changes in Insurance Advertisement Regulations

In a bid to protect consumers, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has proposed to prohibit insurers from issuing advertisements that make claims which are beyond reasonable expectations of performance. The unfair and misleading advertisements will include those which fail to clearly identify the product as insurance and describe benefits that do not match the policy provisions. According to The Economic Times, IRDAI is seeking to come out with new advertisement regulations and has invited comments from stakeholders on the exposure draft by 10 November 2020.

4. Leading Digital Media Launch Indian Digital Media Association

Leading digital media platforms have joined hands to launch Indian Digital Media Association. In its official release, the association stated that it “puts the nation’s interest above everything else”. As per exchange4media, the association’s founding members include OpIndia.com, Goachronicle.com, Republicworld.com, OTV Digital, DeshGujarat.com, Assamlive.com, NewsX.com, Sundayguardianlive.com and InKhabar.com.
